This help guide will show you through Objectives that are integrated into Review Forms. This feature is available as part of the full Talent Management module only.
Contents
Introduction
- Talent Management gives you the ability to keep a record of reviews such as probation, monthly 1-1’s and annual appraisals. Each review can have multiple sections and can provide a step by step workflow for employees, managers and peers to participate in each review
- Within the full Talent Management module, objectives can be included in the review type, to give the employee/manager the opportunity to rate them as part of a review. For more details on Recording Objectives see the linked guide
|
Note: The Objective Completed slider within each objective controls whether the objective is included in review forms for discussion. When this slider is enabled, the objective is marked as fully signed off, so it will no longer appear in review forms. This prevents the full objective history from being shown during review conversations. |
- There are three different options to incorporate objectives into a review:
- Include objectives within overall review type - basic 1-5 rating at the end of a review form
- Objectives within the review form - rating, comments box and choose where it sits in the review form workflow
- Enhanced within the review form (recommended) - same as 2 but integrated with the objectives page so you can update dynamically as part of a review
Review Type configuration
- Enabling the ‘Include Objectives’ toggle within the Review Type template will add a summary of objectives to the end of the workflow within an employee/manager review form. Configuration is accessed via:
- Latest (left-hand) menu: Performance & Development > Performance & Development Configuration > Review Types Configuration
- Pre-2025 (top) menu: System > Talent Management Configuration> Review Types
- See linked guide above for more details
- You can add objectives within a specific review form configuration as detailed in the later section, instead of including them as above, as the review form options have enhanced functionality
Base form warning
- If an objectives section is included in a Base Form, this overrides other forms and therefore you will not be able to select an employee/manager review that includes an objective section
- If employee/manager forms are attached, that include an objectives section (as above), and you then select a Base Form with objectives, it will clear the employee/manager forms selection
| Note: The ‘Include Objectives’ toggle on the review type will only apply if none of the attached review forms contain an Objectives section, otherwise it will be overwritten by choices in the review form(s). |
Review Form configuration
Configuration is accessed via :
- Latest (left-hand) menu: Performance & Development > Performance & Development Configuration > Review Forms Configuration
- Pre-2025 (top) menu: System > Talent Management Configuration> Review Forms
- Further details can be found in the Review Form Configuration guide
- When creating a section in the form, three options are presented in a dropdown list (this will be read-only and fixed if the full talent management module is not installed):
1. Standard type (no objectives)
- This is the original configurable form section and works in the same way as usual, and does not include objectives
2. Objectives type
- This type overrides the 'Include Objectives' switch configured in the Review Type shown in the previous section and will therefore appear even if the review type switch is disabled. A warning is shown in the yellow bar in the image below
- The Objectives type section will look similar to using the Include Objectives switch, but is enhanced by the fact you can:
- Add comments below each objective
- Tailor the section header name
- Tailor the additional text heading, rather than the standard heading of “How have these objectives gone?”
- Choose where the section appears in the workflow, rather than at the end
3. Enhanced Objective type
- This type does everything the 'Objective Type' does in section 2 above with the additional features below, shown within the review section:
- Each objective has a View or Edit button to the right, which takes the user to the Objectives details page for the relevant objective
- The button bar will show an Add Objective button which will take them to a blank objectives creation page
- Updating/Creating objectives through these buttons will take the user back to the review form after clicking the Update button
- Users can navigate back to the review through the Back to Review button
- Users can Refresh Objectives where they may have changed during the review process
- Access to the buttons will depend on the user's permission to the Objectives page and having write access to the review
- Verification statuses are shown next to each objective awaiting verification using the same icons from the Verification page, such as an employee adding/updating their objective(s) which requires manager approval
- New objectives appear at the bottom of the page under a separate heading
The manager can click View or Edit to go into the Objective detail and approve/decline as normal.
| Note: Only the named reviewer will see the page buttons that link to Objectives, so they will not be visible to an HR user viewing another employee’s review. |
