Can a manager user view indirect subordinates, further down the hierarchy?
Answer
Yes, but only for indirect subordinates further down their own reporting line, for example, a senior manager viewing an employee who reports to one of their direct reports.
As a manager, Advanced Search only shows immediate subordinates by default, use the Manager Levels slider to bring people further down your reporting line into view. This does not give visibility of employees outside your reporting line altogether, only people below you in your own hierarchy.
| Note: If a manager needs to see employees outside their own reporting line altogether, for example, a fellow manager's team, Manage Deputy can be used instead. If you're a deputy for another manager, their subordinates appear alongside your own in Advanced Search automatically, with an Exclude Deputised? toggle if you want to filter them out. |
How to view an indirect subordinate
Example - Performance review
- Go to the individual employee page, eg Performance & Development > Employee Dashboard > Reviews
- A manager user will typically see their direct subordinates (level 1) by expanding the dropdown in the corner. 12 direct reports are shown in the example below. Click Advanced search to change the criteria
- Extend the manager level in the advanced search to view further down the hierarchy
- More criteria can be added here or you can just click search and will see more people in the dropdown list to find the appropriate person. Example below now shows 81 records for up to 3 levels down the hierarchy that can be viewed
- Once you've selected the correct person, click into the relevant review
| Note: this lets a senior manager view the review, but only shows an editable form for them if they've been added as a 'peer reviewer' when the review was set up. Viewing alone doesn't grant the ability to contribute. See Peer Reviews guide for how to add a peer to a review. |
