Nine box grid configuration (full Talent Management module)

This guide will show you how to configure the Talent Management 9 Box Grids which are part of the add-on full Talent Managment module only.

Overview

  • The Nine Box Grid is a tool that can be used to assist with conversations about employees' current and future development and Succession Planning.
  • There are two Nine Box Grids in HR:

1.  Performance and Potential

2.  Flight Risk and Impact

  • Employees are rated against the two axes in each grid; which then assigns them to relevant boxes on the two measurement categories and can be used to identify how employees fit into your Succession Plan.

Note: The Nine Box Grids are only available to customers who have the full Talent Management module installed.

 

To configure the Nine Box Grids

  • Go to the following area:
    • Latest menu: Performance & Development > Performance & Development Configuration > Nine Box Grid Configuration
    • Pre 2025 menu: System > Talent Management Configuration > Nine Box Grid Configuration
  • The first tab relates to the Performance and Potential 9 Box Grid. The screen will display a Nine Box Grid layout with a key to the left
  • You can amend the colours, names and description of each box in line with your organisation’s branding and policies
  • Background or Text Colour: Click on the colour you wish to change and then from the dropdown select the colour to be applied, or if you know the hex code (eg to match your branding colours) type over the hex code details 
  • Header or Sub Header text: Click into the existing text to amend 
  • Preview: Click to check how your changes will look in the grid before saving 
  • Cancel changes will reset any changes you have made 
  • Save changes: Click once you are happy with your amendments

Note: The box numbers relate to the score that places the employee in the relevant box and helps to identify which box you are configuring. The number will not display when viewing the grids via: 

  • Latest menu: Performance & Development > Performance Dashboard
  • Pre 2025 menu: Talent & Development > Talent Dashboard
  • The second tab relates to the Flight Risk 9 Box Grid and can be edited in the same manner as the first grid
