Boolean search operators
- For more precise search results use Boolean operators. These allow you to include/exclude search terms to ensure the most relevant results are returned.
- The operator symbols that can be used are listed here:
- & (AND) - when all search terms must be found in the results: eg project & manager will return results that have both project and manager
- | (OR) – use when more than one search term is acceptable in the results: eg project | manager will return any results that have either or both project or manager
- ! (AND NOT) – use to exclude search terms: eg project ! Manager will return results that have project, but will exclude results that have manager.
- “ “(Exact match) – use to ensure results are an exact match: eg “project manager” will only return results with the exact text ‘project manager’
- * (wildcard) – use to return results that are a variation of the search term: eg proj* will return results with project, projects, projector, projected, projection etc
- () (brackets) - use to group and define order of search terms: eg London & (project manager) will return results with the word project near to the word manager, and London
