AD Connector
Step-by-step guide
This guide will show you how to enable remote mailbox for hybrid Exchange setups.
Contents
Introduction
Where your Active Directory follows the hybrid configuration, this will usually mean that you need to enable remote mailboxes for your users. This is essentially linking their O365 mailboxes to their local accounts so that any internal traffic/emails are routed to O365.
This populates specific fields within the local AD object such as proxyAddresses and targetAddress. It is worth noting that the configuration for these fields is driven by any exchange recipient policies you may have setup.
Requirements
There a small number of requirements to ensure the AD Connector can complete this action on your environment.
- Service account must be a member of the Exchange Security Group "Organisation Management"
- Remote powershell must be enabled on the exchange server for the service account
Configuration
Go to the following area:
- Login to your AD Connector portal (IT Access only)
- Workflow Configuration > New Starter - User Creation > Edit Chart > Enable Remote Mailbox > Edit
You will need to update the Exchange Url value to reflect your exchange server.
Enabling Remote Mailbox
Once you have configured the group assignment, it can be enabled under the global variables. Guidance for this can be found in the associated KB article.
