Article 13 of 14 — Training Notes
Create a department in Accord Payroll
- How to create a new department code for use on employee records
- How to assign a department to an employee
Introduction
Departments in Accord Payroll are used to group employees for reporting purposes. Once you have created a department, you can assign it to employees and use it as a filter when running reports or Employee Entry Tables. Departments are set up at company level and are available to all employees within that company.
Create a department
- Open any employee's record and click the General tab. The Department field shows the employee's current department. Click the Department drop-down to see existing departments and identify the codes already in use.
- To add a new department, click the New button next to the Department field (or go to Company > Departments if you prefer the menu route). Enter a Key (the unique department code — up to 5 characters) and a Description, then click OK.
Note: Department codes are case-sensitive in some versions of Accord Payroll. Use a consistent capitalisation convention across your company.
Assign a department to an employee
- Select the employee and click the General tab.
- Click the Department drop-down and select the new department you created.
- Click Save.
The employee will now appear in the correct department when you run department-filtered reports or Employee Entry Tables.
