Grades and Spines
- Go to the following area:
- Latest (left-hand) menu: Data Management > Code Tables
- Pre-2025 (top) menu: System > System Configuration > Code Tables
- From Group choose Job and Pay and then choose Grade Details
- The screen will display the existing grades and in the Summary view will show the Pay Scheme that is associated with that Grade
| Note: To create a spine-type grade, the spine must be set up first. See the Spines Code Table guide for more details. |
To create a grade with a spine pay scheme
- Click Insert New Record
- Enter a Code, Description and then select the Pay Basis, Pay Frequency and Currency and the other fields as you normally would when creating a Grade
- Choose Spine as the Pay Scheme. This will provide some additional fields for completion
- Choose the Spine that the grade is to be attached to and then select the Spine Min, Spine Max and Absolute Spine Max
- When the Spine was created values or spine points will have been set up for that spine. The Grade that is being set up can be restricted so that employees on that grade are restricted to the spine values that fall within the Spine Min and Spine Max. The Absolute Spine Max can be used to accommodate for exceptions to the rule
- Click Update
| Note: The ability to restrict the values on a spine that are accessible to a grade enables different grades to be attached to the same spine but at different values. |
Example
- The Spine for “Main Grade Lecturer” has points associated with it from 1 to 18
- The Grade Details for “Lecturer 1” show that that grade is associated with the “Main Grade Lecturer” spine using a range of spine points
- The Grade Details for “Lecturer 2” show that that grade is also associated with the “Main Grade Lecturer” spine using a range of spine points which in this case has an overlap
