Enter Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in Accord Payroll
- How to record a period of incapacity for work (PIW) for an employee
- How Accord Payroll calculates SSP automatically based on qualifying days
- What to do when average weekly earnings need to be entered manually
Introduction
Accord Payroll calculates SSP automatically once you enter the period of incapacity for work (PIW) dates. The SSP amount is paid to the employee and recorded for reporting purposes. You do not need to calculate the daily or weekly rate manually.
Prerequisite: The employee's pay record must be updated for at least the previous 8 weeks (weekly payroll) or 2 months (monthly payroll) for average weekly earnings to be calculated automatically. For recent starters or new implementations, you may need to enter the average weekly earnings manually.
Record an SSP period
- Select the required employee.
- Click the Transactions tab, then click the SSP button.
- Enter the PIW start date and PIW end date, then click Calculate.
- If prompted, enter the employee's average weekly earnings and tick the Override AWE auto calculation checkbox, then click Update to continue.
Note: You will only be prompted for average weekly earnings if the system cannot calculate it automatically — typically for recent starters or when you are newly set up on Accord Payroll.
- Click Update. The SSP period is added to the employee's SSP periods table.
Note: If you prefer to calculate SSP manually, you can enter wage type 210000 or 051000 on the Transactions tab. Use 051000 if you need the basic pay to be automatically reduced by the amount of SSP paid. Reporting will be the same regardless of method.
Record a new PIW for an existing SSP employee
If an employee returns to work and then goes off sick again, you need to record a new PIW. Click the SSP button — the existing SSP periods table will be shown. Click New PIW to add the new period and follow the same steps above.
