How to become a Mentor
The mentor/mentee section of the LMS is a place for users to offer up their support to others by mentoring on any skill they feel proficient at.
- Navigate to the Become a Mentor page via Portal > Become a Mentor
- Click on Manage Profile Skills
- This will open a pop-up window where you can select multiple skills using the Add Skill dropdown
- Click Update when you have finished selecting the skills
- Your skills profile will then be updated with the skills you have selected
- Click on the skills you wish to mentor, they will become grey, indicating that they have been selected
- To remove a skill, click on Manage Profile Skills and click the x next to the skill you want to delete, then click Update to save your changes
- You can increase or decrease the number of mentees you will work with by clicking on the Mentee Limit dropdown and selecting accordingly
- Use the toggle to indicate whether you are available to be a mentor
- When you toggle as Unavailable, you will be met with a pop-up window notifying you that your mentoring status will be set as inactive and any existing mentors will be notified
- Click Continue
Managing Mentors
- Navigate to the Become a Mentor page via Portal > Become a Mentor and then click on the My Mentees tab
| Note: If a new request comes in, this will be shown first. Once accepted or declined, you will then be able to view your mentees |
- You can filter what mentees you see through the dropdown menu and selecting the appropriate option
- Click this button to end the Mentoring Relationship
- Click this button to view the Notes between the mentee and mentor
- This shows any upcoming meetings
- To view the mentor’s profile, click on the View Profile button underneath the user’s profile picture
Finding and viewing your Mentors
- To find a mentor, navigate to Portal > My Mentoring and click on the My Skills tab
- Click Manage Profile Skills to select up to three skills that you would like to gain from being mentored.
- Click Update to save into your Desired Skills.
- Click Search
- Use the search bar to search for a name or click on the Filter button to search by Mentor Availability
- Click Search
- To send a connection request to a Mentor, click on the Connect button
- To see a list of your Mentors, click on the Mentors tab
- The dropdown list will allow you to view your Mentoring Relationships, Mentoring Requests and any Relationships which have ended or been declined
- Once requests have been accepted, you are able to create and manage meetings
- Click on Schedule Meeting to create a meeting
- Select a proposed Date and Time for the meeting and click Add Meeting
- Click Yes to add the meeting to Google Calendar
- If you wish to add any Notes for the meeting, click on the Notes button
- Then Update
- If you wish to end a relationship with a Mentor, click on the End Relationship button and add a Reason for doing so
- Click End Relationship
