This guide will show you how to create and submit a Full Payment Submission (FPS) to HMRC.
Creating and submitting the FPS
A Full Payment Submission (FPS) must be submitted on or before the payment day. This must be done after you have updated and closed the payroll.
- Go to RTI Submissions via either route below:
- Calculations > RTI Processing
- Home/Utilities > Other Utilities > RTI
- Click Add New
- From the menu presented select ‘New FPS (Full Payment Submission)’
- Enter any required/missing data
- Most of the fields will be pre- populated
- Tick all additional companies in the PAYE scheme on the Additional Companies check list
- If you are acting as a payroll agent for the client then the agent details must be populated
- Having completed the details as required, click Next
- There is nothing to be completed on the second page
- Click Finish to create the submission file
Note: For the final submission of the tax year or if the scheme is closed tick the relevant check box
- Click Start on the Creating FPS XML file window
- Confirmation of completion will be presented
- If there are any warnings a message box will confirm the number of warnings and provide the opportunity to review the log file
Note: For more details on editing records in the RTI Journal, see the related help guide. If you have edited any records in order to resolve a warning then the FPS file must be re-created before submitting to HMRC.
- Click Yes to view the log file and make any amendments as required
- Once the FPS file has been successfully created it will be displayed as the top line in the HMRC RTI Submissions table
- To submit the FPS submission click on the appropriate line and click Submit
- The Injector screen will be displayed where the User ID and Password need to be entered unless the fields are already populated
- Click Submit
- Confirmation of the successful submission will be presented
- This information will be stored in the database for future reference and evidence of what was submitted to HMRC
- Close the Injector screen and then confirm the document submission
- The Status and Submit Date fields will now be populated in the HMRC RTI Submissions table
Note: If the Status and Submit Date fields are not populated and there is no reason to believe that the submission has been unsuccessful then the Update/Mark as Submitted button can be used
- Submission details can be viewed by clicking Lookup Submission Details
