The text which appears alongside the name of a field can be changed as required.
To rename a field
- Go to the following area:
- Latest (left-hand) menu: Data Management > Tables and Fields
- Pre-2025 (top) menu: System > System Administration > Tables and Fields
- The screen will display a list of tables
- Navigate to the table that you wish to review either by using the search function at the top of the screen to type all or part of the table name you are searching for, use the page indicators at the bottom of the screen or use the column filter options
- Once you have located the table as required click on the name to display the details of the table and on a separate tab, fields within that table
- The Audit? column displays whether the field is audited
- The Required in UI? column displays whether the field is mandatory

- Click Edit
- This will enable you to change the Description and to change whether the field is audited or mandatory
- Make the changes as required and then click Update
- In the example below the field which is usually called ‘Sex’ has been renamed to ‘Gender’
- Go to the following area:
- Latest (left-hand) menu: Personal Data > Personal information > Personal Details
- Pre-2025 (top) menu: Personal > Personal Details
- The field will then be displayed on the screen with its new name
